Many businesses have called us out to assist with their windows recently. One in particular had a cracked window with a mail slot that needed replacement. We don’t recommend using laminated glass for windows with a mail slot, because they are not strong enough to handle the forces that occur over time. Repeated use of the mail slot will eventually stress the glass too much and lead to cracking. For windows with a mail slot, we always recommend using tempered glass. Additionally, we recommend using smaller windows for a mail slot, because for larger windows, a custom cut will have to be made and this can be expensive.
The customer here took our advice, and opted for tempered glass, with no mail slot on the replacement. They will likely move their mail slot to a smaller window. Now, the glass should be much stronger and less likely to crack or break!
