In the DFW area, the frequent and rapid shifts from mild afternoons to freezing nights make temperature regulation a constant struggle for homeowners. Low-E glass serves as an invisible thermal mirror that specifically addresses these North Texas temperature swings. While standard glass allows the heat generated by your furnace to radiate straight out into the cold night air, the microscopic coating on Low-E glass reflects that long-wave infrared energy back into your living space. This process significantly reduces the workload on your heating system, helping to maintain a consistent temperature even when the outdoor thermometer drops into the 20s.

Another common winter nuisance in North Texas is the appearance of condensation and cold spots. When warm and humid indoor air meets a standard window pane chilled by the outdoor wind, it reaches its dew point, leading to moisture that can rot sills and foster mold. Low-E glass keeps the interior pane much closer to the actual room temperature, which eliminates the drafty feeling homeowners often experience when sitting near windows. This warmer surface temperature prevents condensation from forming, protecting your window frames and improving the overall air quality of your home during the damp winter months.

By creating a more robust thermal barrier, Low-E windows help balance the differing temperatures across different rooms in a house. In larger DFW homes with large glass areas or southern exposures, this prevents the furnace from constantly cycling to compensate for heat loss in one specific area. Ultimately, the integration of Low-E technology transforms windows from a point of vulnerability into an active part of your home’s climate control, providing comfort that lasts from the first autumn chill through the final spring freeze.

In North Texas, a window has two jobs that are equally vital. Not only must they fight the relentless summer heat, they must also prevent the elements from getting into the home during storms. While many homeowners focus solely on energy efficiency when upgrading to low-E glass, there is another unforeseen benefit. Tempered low-E glass doesn’t just lower your electric bill, it also protects your home against storms and hail.

Standard window glass is surprisingly fragile, often cracking under the mere pressure of extreme temperature swings, a phenomenon known as temperature shock. Tempered glass is heat-treated to be four to five times stronger than regular glass panes. This added structural integrity allows the window to withstand the impact of large hail and high wind loads that would easily shatter a standard window unit.

As we move through 2026, local building codes in high-growth areas like Frisco and Celina are increasingly favoring these high-performance glass packages. Beyond the safety of the break pattern, where the glass crumbles into blunt pebbles instead of sharp shards, the combined energy and storm defense makes your home more resilient and significantly more valuable in the DFW real estate market.

If you would like a free quote on upgrading any of your windows, contact us and we would be happy to assist you.

We recently went out to Heath, TX to install some table glasses. These were flat glasses with polished edges.

Sometimes, table glass is installed with plastic buttons underneath. This has the disadvantage of letting dust accumulate between the glass and the table, which can be a hard area to clean.

Fortunately, the table glass we use does not use these plastic buttons. We install it in a way where it can sit right on the table, meaning that it won’t accumulate dust or other debris.

Upgrading to low-emissivity (Low-E) glass in the Dallas-Fort Worth area is less of a luxury and more of a survival strategy for your home’s cooling system. In the intense Texas sun, a standard window acts like a magnifying glass, allowing infrared solar energy to pour into your living spaces, leading to unwanted heat. Low-E glass functions as a hear mirror, thanks to a microscopically thin, transparent layer of silver or other metal oxides. This coating is designed to reflect that solar heat back outside before it can cross the threshold of your home, effectively bouncing the 100-degree August heat away while still allowing clear, natural light to fill your rooms.

The financial impact of this technology is particularly dramatic for North Texas homeowners, where air conditioning often runs for seven or eight months out of the year. High-performance Low-E coatings, such as those meeting the 2026 Energy Star 7.0 requirements, can slash cooling costs by 25% to 40% compared to traditional clear glass. By maintaining a more consistent interior temperature, these windows also prevent hot spots that typically occur near west-facing walls. This reduces the relentless cycling of your HVAC unit, which not only lowers your monthly electric bill but also significantly extends the mechanical life of your expensive cooling equipment.

Remember that Low-E glass can also protect your home’s interior assets from the effects of ultraviolet light. The same coating that reflects infrared light also reflects up to 99% of ultraviolet rays, which are the primary culprit behind the fading of hardwood floors, sofas, and expensive rugs. Even a single season of direct sun exposure can permanently bleach furniture. Low-E glass provides an invisible shield that will protect the vibrancy of your decor, without the need for heavy drapes or blinds.

Want to upgrade your windows? Contact us and we’d be happy to give you a free quote. We can do Low-E window installations all across DFW.

For residents of Dallas, hail is a seasonal reality that brings more than just roof damage. While homeowners often check their shingles after a storm, window damage is frequently overlooked until a crack begins to form across a pane. Hail in North Texas can reach high velocities that exceed the breaking point of standard residential glass.

When replacing hail-damaged glass, homeowners have the opportunity to upgrade to materials that are far more resilient than standard panes. Tempered glass is a good option because it is stronger and safer, breaking into smaller cubes instead of jagged pieces when it does shatter. While tempered glass is strong, laminated glass is the gold standard for hail protection. If laminated glass does crack, the inner layer will still hold the pane together, preventing debris from entering your home, and keeping hazardous weather out until a permanent fix can be made.

Hail can also cause damage to insulated glass units, or IGUs. Even if the glass doesn’t break, the hail strikes can create microscopic breaches in the window’s seal. After the argon gas escapes and humidity seeps in, the window can start to look foggy. We recommend replacing these windows if you start to notice fog on the inside.

Have a home damaged by hail? Not to worry, we can assist you a window replacement. Contact us to receive a free quote.

Living in the center of DFW means being at the center of constant growth. This growth is great for the economy. However, that growth comes with some added noise: the roar of American Airlines jets departing DFW International, and the hum of cars on the Dallas North Tollway. Sometimes, citizens can also hear the non-stop construction in booming cities like Frisco and Celina.

Can something be done about all of this noise? Yes, glass can actually block out these outside sounds! The soundproofing of ability is glass is measured by something called STC, or sound transmission class. This measures how much sound a window stops, so the higher the number, the better.

Standard Single-Pane: STC 26–28 (You can hear a neighbor’s conversation).

Standard Double-Pane: STC 28–32 (You can hear traffic, but it’s muffled).

Acoustic/Soundproof Glass: STC 35–45+ (Significant reduction in jet engines and sirens).

If you’re near a high traffic area, upgrading from a standard double-pane to acoustic glass can reduce noise as much as 90%. Thanks to glass technology, noise pollution isn’t something inevitable that you have to live with daily.

If you need to reduce unwanted noise, we can help you upgrade your windows. Simply contact us and we will provide you with a free quote on glass installation or replacement.

In the Dallas-Fort Worth metroplex, we are used to extreme weather fluctuations. From 100 degree summer heatwaves to hailstorms and cold fronts, the glass in our homes is under constant thermal stress. When one of your windows chips or cracks, the damage goes beyond aesthetics. Security and energy efficiency become compromised once a window is damaged. This is why it is important to choose a professional to do glass replacement.

Can you repair without replacing?

You may think that you can just glue or patch a crack. These repairs will almost certainly fail, because adhesives cannot match the expansion rate of glass. Glue and glass are a combination that easily pull apart, leaving a crack to continue to spread. In an area with extreme sunlight and heat conditions like DFW, professional glass replacement is the only way to ensure that your windows remain protected against the elements.

DFW Building Codes

Current North Texas energy standards now mandate Low-E, otherwise known as Low-emissivity glass for modern residential installations. This glass blocks out the majority of infrared and UV rays, leading to lower heat and utility bills in the summer.

Safety and Compliance in DFW

Beyond efficiency, safety glass is a non-negotiable requirement for many areas of a DFW home. According to the International Residential Code, which governs most North Texas municipalities, any glass located in hazardous locations must be tempered or laminated safety glass. This includes:

Glass in or within 24 inches of a door.

Windows located in shower or bathtub enclosures.

Large panes that are less than 18 inches from the floor.

Why not standard glass? Standard glass, also known as annealed glass, breaks into razor sharp pieces, while safety glass breaks into blunt cubes when it shatters. When replacing old windows, it’s important that you have a professional installer who will ensure that your new glass meets these safety codes.

Homes in North Texas often use three common types of glass. Annealed glass is commonly seen in older homes, while newer builds will have tempered glass or laminated glass.

Annealed Glass

This is glass in its most basic form. It’s often the most inexpensive, but comes with significant downsides. It is brittle, so if it breaks, it will shatter into long, jagged pieces. For safety reasons, building codes now restrict this glass from being used in certain areas.

Tempered Glass

Tempered glass is heat treated in order to be four to five times stronger than standard annealed glass. If it does break, it will break into pebble-like shapes, instead of sharp edges.

Laminated Glass

This glass consists of two players of glass with a sheet of plastic in the center. When the glass breaks, it will stick to the plastic instead of falling out. You may have seen this be used in high-security windows or storm-resistant windows.

Which glass is best for your home?

If you’re having old glass replaced or installing new glass, we always recommend going with tempered or laminated glass. This will simply make your home a much secure and safer place to be. Not only will your home be safer from natural disasters and vandalism, but in the rare event that there is a break of glass, there will not be harmful, jagged debris.
