Does Cracked Glass Need to be Replaced?

Unfortunately, cracked or chipped glass does need to be completely replaced.

It might be tempting to reach for the superglue to fix broken glass, however, patching it up like this is rarely a safe or viable solution.

Even if glass is glued, the crack will always remain as a weak point, with each expansion cycle of daytime heating and nighttime cooling putting more stress on the window, leading to further damage.

While a cracked window may not initially appear to be a problem, it is a safety hazard. The coming of a storm with strong winds could cause the whole window to shatter. These windows are also more prone to just shattering randomly. Additionally, your utility bills may be much higher because of the reduced insulation.

We’re often asked why we can’t just patch a crack like a hole in drywall. Unfortunately, glass has to be made as a single sheet to the exact dimensions at the very start. The glass must be treated as one sheet to ensure a maximum level of safety.
