We recently were called to inspect a window that had been damaged by a dog. What happened exactly? The dog was chasing squirrels, and this ended up in a damaged window. There are many reasons why we recommend tempered glass. This heat-treated glass is much stronger than standard glass. This means that if your pets happen to bump into it for whatever reason, it is much less likely to break. In the event that it does break, this glass is designed to shatter into small pebbles, which is much safer than the jagged edges that standard glass makes when it breaks.
Most tempered glass now comes in Low-E form, an energy efficient design that lets light in while keeping heat out.
