How Long Does Glass Replacement Take?

The first question that many of our customers ask is how long glass replacement takes. To give you a proper answer to that, we first have to distinguish between on-site labor and total turnaround time. On-site labor is the time actually spent at the home or business replacing or installing the glass, while the total turnaround time is the time from the first call to the time the glass is in.

On-Site Installation

The time to install windows depends on many factors, but on-site installation can generally take up to 60 minutes per window. Therefore, if you only need one window installed or replaced, you can expect the process to take about 1 hour. If you need multiple windows to be replaced around the property, expect about 1 hour for each window.

Total Turnaround Time

From your first call, the process can take 5 to 10 business days. Although the installation itself is fast, there is some additional time involved, because window glass can’t simply just be bought off the shelf.

We take the time to make custom measurements for every window. The accuracy needs to be within 1/16 of an inch in order to ensure a snug fit. We then send the measurements to a glass plant, who cut the glass to the right size and apply the coatings.

What about Emergencies?

Sometimes you may need a repair, but cannot leave that window open due to safety concerns. In that case, we can do a board-up within 30-60 minutes. Before boarding up a window, we remove any broken glass and debris. Then, we put a plywood barrier over the opening, preventing unauthorized access to your property.

When the glass arrives, we will then remove the plywood barrier and then install the glass.
